Thomas Oxton – Employment Law Lawyer

Thomas is experienced in representing both workers and employers before the employment and employment appeal tribunals. He was called to the bar in 2002 and is presently head of the employment practice division at Trident Chambers.

Thomas has a particular interest in unfair dismissal issues and experience of advising corporations and human resources agencies on procedures that can be adopted in order to minimize the risk of successful tribunal claims.

Thomas is an experienced advocate who has represented clients bringing or resisting claims in wide areas of employment law including unfair dismissal legislation and constructive dismissal, disability, race, sex and gender discrimination, the minimum wage, unlawful deductions, bonus and discretionary benefit issues, and claims related to time off work.

Thomas has represented clients at all stages of the employment tribunal process, including at pre-hearing reviews, case management discussions, and final hearings where trials of substantive issues occur.

Thomas also has a wide experience of litigation in the civil courts and has represented clients before the county courts in many types of hearings on innumerable occasions.

Thomas together with the rest of the team at Trident Employment Law provides to interested employers bespoke arrangements whereby employees’ contracts of employment are drafted. Additionally, associated workplace policies can be prepared in staff handbooks tailored to suit individual employers’ requirements. Requests for on-going consultancies providing for human resources support are also catered for with employers who wish to benefit from such arrangements.

Thomas speaks fluent Spanish and Italian and can make versatile arrangements for meetings with clients to take place in these languages.

Thomas graduated with a first class undergraduate degree and was ranked very competent by City Law School where he passed the bar vocational course.

Before joining the bar Thomas worked for a legal expenses insurer. He enjoys cycling in his spare time.
